This archival, hand-sewn journal/sketchbook is made from 100 gsm, antique white Hahnemühle Ingres mouldmade paper from Dassel, Germany, made on the same site since 1584. It is sewn with Irish linen thread in the linked stitch pattern that was developed by the ancient Copts. This stitch allows the book to lay open easily at any page.
The book’s endbands and bookmark are goatskin. Its boards are wrapped in Alran French goatskin that was processed at Rocky Mountain Leather Supply in Utah, and its front cover is embellished with skin from an Indonesian whipsnake.
The talisman in this book is a 1955 token celebrating the 70th anniversary of the San Diego Federal Savings and Loan Association, its Western theme carried out by a gold rush-era prospector panning for gold.
