This archival, hand-sewn journal/sketchbook is made from 100 gsm, white Hahnemühle Ingres mouldmade paper from Dassel, Germany, made on the same site since 1584. It is sewn with Irish linen thread in the linked stitch pattern that was developed by the ancient Copts. This stitch allows the book to lay open easily at any page.
The book’s endbands and bookmark are goatskin. Its boards are wrapped in a 1961 map of the United States, and the book is half-cloth in Brillianta book cloth from the Netherlands.
The talisman in this book is a 1972 souvenir medallion from the Centennial of the United States’ National Parks. The first National Park was Yellowstone, created in 1872 and signed into existence by Ulysses S. Grant.
