Sky High
This archival, hand-sewn journal/sketchbook is made from 100 gsm, white Hahnemühle Ingres mouldmade paper from Dassel, Germany, made on the same site since 1584. It is sewn with Irish linen thread in the linked stitch pattern that was developed by the ancient Copts. This stitch allows the book to lay open easily at any page.
The book’s endbands and bookmark are goatskin. Its boards are wrapped a 1971 tourist map of France, and its spine is covered in Alran French goatskin that was processed at Rocky Mountain Leather Supply in Utah.
The talisman in this book is an 1889 souvenir of the Exposition Universelle, the World’s Fair at which the Eiffel Tower was unveiled. At the time, it was the world’s tallest building, a distinction it held for 42 years until the Empire State Building was completed. However, since 1957, the Eiffel Tower has been nine meters taller because of the addition of radio towers on its top. This souvenir was only available to those fearless early visitors who climbed the stairs to its crown
