Silver Eiffel

$160.00

This archival, hand-sewn journal/sketchbook is made from 100 gsm, rose Hahnemühle Ingres mouldmade paper from Dassel, Germany, made on the same site since 1584.  It is sewn with Irish linen thread in the linked stitch pattern that was developed by the ancient Copts.  This stitch allows the book to lay open easily at any page.

The book’s endbands are brown and yellow linen, and its bookmark is goatskin. Its boards are wrapped in paper that was hand-marbled by Betty Caponi in Monte San Giusto, Italy, and its spine is covered in Alran French goatskin that was processed at Rocky Mountain Leather Supply in Utah.

The talisman in this book is an 1889, silvered medal sold to visitors to the Exposition Internationelle in Paris when the Eiffel Tower was unveiled.  Visitors to the World’s Fair paid 1 franc admission and 5 francs to climb the tower.  Once at the top, they had the chance to purchase this souvenir of their climb. It reads: “Souvenir d l’Ascension, Sommet de la Tour Eiffel.”
