This archival, hand-sewn journal/sketchbook is made from 100 gsm, white Hahnemühle Ingres mouldmade paper from Dassel, Germany since 1584, sewn with Irish linen thread in the linked pattern that was developed by the ancient Copts. This stitch allows the book to lay open easily at any page.
This book’s endbands are pigskin, and its bookmark is goatskin. Its boards are wrapped in paper that was hand-marbled by Jemma Lewis in Wiltshire, England, and its spine is covered in Alran French goatskin that was processed by Rocky Mountain Leather Supply in Utah.
The talisman in this book is a medal from the Bausch & Lomb science awards program. Every year since 1933, Bausch & Lomb has given awards to high school students who are then invited to apply for their scholarship at University of Rochester. Bausch & Lomb is a leading producer of eye care, vision correction, and eye surgery products, and the woman on this art-deco medal is refracting light through a lens to focus it on the center of a laurel wreath.
