This archival, hand-sewn journal/sketchbook is made from 100 gsm, antique white Hahnemühle Ingres mouldmade paper from Dassel, Germany, made on the same site since 1584.  It is sewn with Irish linen thread in the linked stitch pattern that was developed by the ancient Copts.  This stitch allows the book to lay open easily at any page.

The book’s endbands and bookmark are French goatskin, and it is half-leathered in Alran French goatskin that was processed at Rocky Mountain Leather Supply in Utah. Its boards are wrapped in a 1949 map of the British Isles, specifically, Ireland.

The talisman in this book is a 1954 Irish punt, or 20 pence, coin, featuring an Irish Hunter horse.  The Republic of Ireland Act, 1948, “hereby declared that the description of the State shall be the Republic of Ireland.” The UK Parliament then passed the Ireland Act 1949, which acknowledged that Ireland had “ceased to be part…of His Majesty's dominions” and therefore a member of the Commonwealth.
