This archival, hand-sewn journal/sketchbook is made from 100 gsm, white Hahnemühle Ingres mouldmade paper from Germany, sewn with Irish linen thread in the linked pattern that was developed by the ancient Copts. This stitch allows the book to lay open easily at any page.

This book’s endbands are red and yellow cotton, and its bookmark is goatskin.  Its boards are wrapped in paper that was hand-marbled by Katherine Brett at Payhembury Papers in Cambridge, England, and its spine is covered in French goatskin that was processed at Rocky Mountain Leather Supply in Utah.

The talisman in this book is an acknowledgement of twenty year’s membership (1968-1988) of C. Lancel in the “French Syndicate National des Maisons d’Alimentation in the Succursales, Supermarches, et Hypermarches” division. Its artist was art deco sculptor Léon Georges Baudry, who died a decade before this medal was engraved, yet he lived on through his work.
