Niagara Falls

$160.00

This archival, hand-sewn journal/sketchbook is made from 100 gsm, white Hahnemühle Ingres mouldmade paper from Dassel, Germany, made on the same site since 1584.  It is sewn with Irish linen thread in the linked stitch pattern that was developed by the ancient Copts.  This stitch allows the book to lay open easily at any page.

The book’s endbands and bookmark are goatskin. Its boards are wrapped in a 1956 map of the Great Lakes Region of the United States. The book is half-leathered in Alran French goatskin processed at Rocky Mountain Leather Supply in Utah.

The talisman in this book is a mid-20th-Century souvenir from Niagra Falls, Canada.  Niagara Falls erodes about one foot per year. In 1956, the year this souvenir was minted, a rock fall at the falls crushed the Schoellkopf Power Station. What a story.
