Iron Madame

$165.00

This archival, hand-sewn journal/sketchbook is made from 100 gsm, antique white Hahnemühle Ingres mouldmade paper from Dassel, Germany, made on the same site since 1584.  It is sewn with Irish linen thread in the linked stitch pattern that was developed by the ancient Copts.  This stitch allows the book to lay open easily at any page.

The book’s endbands and bookmark are goatskin. Its boards are wrapped in a 1960 map of France and Belgium, and its spine is covered in Alran French goatskin that was processed at Rocky Mountain Leather Supply in Sandy, Utah.

The talisman in this book is an 1889 souvenir token from the Exposition Universele, the World’s Fair in Paris where the Eiffel Tower was opened.  It cost one franc to enter the fair, and five to gain access to the Tower’s stairs.  When one reached the summit, this silvered bronze medal was available for purchase.
