Indiana Railroad
This archival, hand-sewn journal/sketchbook is made from 80 gsm Mohawk Superfine archival paper stitched with Irish linen thread in the linked pattern that was developed by the ancient Copts. This stitch allows the book to lay open easily at any page.
This book’s endbands and bookmark are Alran French goatskin. The book is half-leathered in Alran French goatskin processed at Rocky Mountain Leather Supply in Utah, and its boards are wrapped in a 1956 map of the United States of America.
The talisman in this book is an early 20th Century token from the Indiana Railroad. This was the “ticket” to ride the Interurban train that ran between cities in Indiana. The Interurban opened in 1900 and served 68 Indiana counties, connecting cities to one another and also linking to the major passenger rail lines in the country.
