Discoveries Album

$100.00

This archival, hand-sewn album/scrapbook is made from 100 gsm, antique white Hahnemühle Ingres mouldmade paper from Dassel, Germany, made on the same site since 1584.  It is sewn with Irish linen thread in a modified pamphlet stitch that leaves room between each gathering to accommodate pasted in pages/objects.

The book’s boards are wrapped in a 1950 map of Spain and France, and its spine is covered in goatskin from Landerwerlen Leathers in Indianapolis.

The talisman in this book is a souvenir from the 1974 Iowa State Fair, the theme of which was “The Discoverers.”  The Iowa State Fair has been held every August since 1854, and it is famous for always showcasing a life-sized cow sculpted in butter.
