This archival, hand-sewn journal/sketchbook is made from 100 gsm, white Hahnemühle Ingres mouldmade paper from Dassel, Germany, made on the same site since 1584.  It is sewn with Irish linen thread in the linked stitch pattern that was developed by the ancient Copts.  This stitch allows the book to lay open easily at any page.

The book’s endbands are pigskin, and its bookmark is goatskin.  Its boards are wrapped in a 1978 British Admirality Nautical Chart of the Persian Gulf, and its spine is covered in Alran French goatskin that was processed at Rocky Mountain Leather Supply in Utah.

The talisman in this book is an early 20th Century medallion presented by Mouth of the Rhone region in France, of which Marseilles is the seat; its obverse reads: “Conseil General Des Bouches Du Rhone.” Bouches du Rhone is one of the original 83 French departments, created during the French Revolution in 1790.
