Commission for LC
N.B. This is a commissioned book an nfs.
This archival, hand-sewn journal/sketchbook is made from 100 gsm, rose Hahnemühle Ingres mouldmade paper from Dassel, Germany, made on the same site since 1584. It is sewn with Irish linen thread in the linked stitch pattern that was developed by the ancient Copts. This stitch allows the book to lay open easily at any page.
The book’s endbands and bookmark are Saffiano French goatskin. Its boards are wrapped in paper that was hand-marbed by Jemma Lewis in Whiltshire, England, and its spine is covered in Saffiano French goat leather, the finish preferred by the Italian fashion house Prada.
The talisman in this book is a personal effect, a pin depicting the labyrinth at the Cathedral at Chartres. The Chartres Cathedral was first built in the early 12th Century, and its labyrinth dates from the early 13th. For more than 800 years it has guided reflection and meditation
