This archival, hand-sewn journal is made from 100 gsm, custard colored Hahnemühle Ingres mouldmade paper from Germany, sewn with Irish linen thread in the linked pattern that was developed by the ancient Copts. This stitch allows the book to lay open easily at any page.
This book’s endbands are brown and yellow cotton, and its bookmark is goatskin. Its boards are wrapped in a 1940 map of the western United States, and the spine is encased in French goatskin.
The talisman in this book is a commemorative medallion from the 1972 Centennial of the National Parks. During World War II, the era of this map, several of the United States National Parks were used as training grounds for troops. Visitation to all of the parks declined precipitously during the war, and the buildings and roads were renovated afterward, which is why there are so many 1940’s era structures in use in the Parks today.
