1900
This archival, hand-sewn journal/sketchbook is made from 100 gsm, white Hahnemühle Ingres mouldmade paper from Dassel, Germany, made on the same site since 1584. It is sewn with Irish linen thread in the linked stitch pattern that was developed by the ancient Copts. This stitch allows the book to lay open easily at any page.
The book’s endbands and bookmark are goatskin. Its boards are wrapped in a 1954 blueprint from the Kyger Creek Power Station in Cheshire, Ohio, and its spine is covered in Alran French goatskin that was processed at Rocky Mountain Leather Supply in Utah.
The talisman in this book is a 1900 souvenir sold at the top of the Eiffel Tower to persons who had climbed it. This coin was minted for the 1889 opening of the World’s Fair; admission to the fair was one franc, and admission to the Eiffel Tower cost five francs.
